I practice a form of woodcarving that is called green woodcarving. Simple and quality tools are enough to discover the extraordinary craft of green woodcarving.
I am also very influenced by the Nordic practice of slöjd. Slöjd means manual work that refers to the manufacture of objects made of wood, metal, paper or fabrics. Slöjd gives you the satisfaction of making ingenious, clever, artful and functional objects with simple tools. The choice of material and work methods must be mastered to get strong and durable objects.
With the help of an axe, a straight knife and a hook knife, the creation of many objects is possible. It is a fulfilling craft activity in harmony with natural environnements.
The wood is preferably shaped green, so it offers less resistance to the tool and the hands. It is a pleasure to carve throught greenwood and to be part of the whole process, from the forest to the final product.
The materials I use are mostly gathered from the area surrounding the area of Biel/Bienne, in Switzerland.
Every objects I make is unique, with traces from the forest, the tools, and the craftsperson. With a deep love for nature, forests and trees.
